Dependent and independent variables refer to values that change in relationship to each other. The dependent variables are those that are observed to change in response to the independent variables. The independent variables are those that are deliberately manipulated to invoke a change in the dependent variables.

Depending on the context, independent variables are also known as predictor variables, regressors, controlled variables, manipulated variables, or explanatory variables.

The dependent variable is also known as the response variable, the regressand, the measured variable, the responding variable, the explained variable, or the outcome variable.

Think of it this way, an independent variable works by itself, it doesn't need anything to support it. Think of yourself as a dependent variable, you depend on your parents for what you have, at age 12 you can't operate outside on your own. When something is controlled that means it's monitored or watched for changes in behavior or variables in this case.

im not sure about controlled, but

independent, when dealing with systems, means there is only 1 solution

dependent, means an infinite number of solutions

idk if you and i are talking about the same thing though because im a sophmore,

and i dont think you would have gotten to this yet

compare to your notes and see if that makes any sense
