I personally would rather pay for myself. But it's sometimes awkward when it's the time to pay for the food, tickets or whatever. It's like I'm waiting for them to say it so I can just reject them. I hate having to go through that. Some guys don't take no for an answer and then I might feel lame (all cliche, you know). It's not about pride with me, I just think it's ridiculous - why must a guy do it? Think about it. It's old school.
Once I was on a date and I was fumbling around for my money but the guy was all, "hmm, do you even have the right money. Shall I pay, if you don't...."
.........
He meant it in a way to say, "would you like me to pay?" but it totally felt insulting. Yes I DO have the money, fool.

i think it is so old fashioned for a guy to pay for a date. i like to go 50/50. it feels kinda used, like he'll pay 4 u if you go on the date with him, feels like a light form of prostitution to me! with me and my bf, i only let im pay 4 the whole date if he promises he will let me pay next time. just makes ya feel cheap i guess. so many females want equality these days, so cough up! why is this any different? i think its insulting too, i totally agree with you . x

If it's a first date with a guy and he wanted me to pay. That would be the last date with the guy. I don't care if it's a double standard. The guy should pick up the bill before you even get a chance to say if you are paying or not.
After a couple times and a good solid connection....then I would foot the bill.

Why are you fumbling for your money or even waiting for them to say or do something? If you really had any intention of paying for yourself, then you'd be 1) saying that you were going to pay for whatever instead of waiting, 2) getting out your money to pay for it, and 3) already have your money tucked away where you could get at it easily instead of having to fumble around for it. Since you don't do any of those things then you subconsciously expect him to pay for it all.

I don't do 'awkward'.
If he doesn't go for the bill then I tell him he better pay the bill or go start washing the dishes. Then I'll offer to pay the tip to soften the blow a little. If he lets me pay the tip then it's the last date for him.

well less money for me to spend
but you are right its not really fair that they think oh no let me get it your too poor and defenseless. its like gosh just get outta the way and let me pay. but a real relationship would be better if you both paid an equal amount.

I think it's awkward, but it can be the same way for the guys. Some women expect guys to pay, so expect to pay their own way.

I will pay if I invited her out. If she invites me out, she pays.

No...I just flutter my eyelashes while he takes care of the bill. And then I make sure to show my appreciation.
