well actually i did that with a sempron. but i want to know if i can do that with a 6400+ athlon X2 without any trouble at STOCK speed. would that slow it down?

well, is there 4pin to 8pin connectors and will they work as good?

I'd highly recommend using an 8-pin because the motherboard needs all the extra power for stability. You can you an 8 pin on a 4 pin, but not the other way around.

3.2GHZ AMD Athlon X2? Niiiice! I'm running a Core 2 Duo OC'ed to 3.6Ghz myself. I hope AMD can take the crown over Intel again sometime soon.

It would usually work fine for 65 watt processors like the X2 Brisbanes and some of the X2 Windsors BUT not for the 125 watters like the X2 6000+ and 6400+. Vcore might be unstable. The 4 to 8 pin adapter will only be feasible if your power supply has strong +12V rails. +12 V2DC rail should have at least 12amps but 15amps would be best for 24x7 stability.

OR you could consider the X2 5000+ Black Edition then overclock it to 3.1gHz. It will just be a cool running 75watter at that level.
