Good question: There are times when family's do affect the self esteem and self worth negatively. The thing to remember is that in some family's the children may not be allowed to be an individual person due to the role they are designed to play within the family. Think of a child's mobile, all the pieces are of the same weight (role) and it flows with balance, when one piece comes off (changes role and becomes individual) the rest of the family get very unbalanced, hence they may force the individual to stay in the role, either psychologically, emotionally or at times physically. This is just one description of what can happen within a family that can affect the individual. However this will usually happen subconsciously or out of awareness of the members of the family.

I suffered from low self esteem for sooooo many years but not anymore. When a person is surrounded by family, they should never have lowered self esteem. Family should be there to offer love, support & acceptance for their family members.

It may not necessarily be that
It may be that being around the dysfunction of your family
creates a dissatisfaction with the situation
You realize that you don't act the way these people do
It may hurt
It may disappoint
But it can also be healthy
Because you realize it
And also realize that you won't act that way to gain points
Just a thought.....

yea:
they conditioned you to think less of yourself. Probably because they are scared of you or someone that you remind you of.

It shouldn't. If yours does you need to talk to someone you trust.
