No but I love the word housecoat and maybe I'll start calling my robe my housecoat. It makes me think of my Nana! Or Homer Simpson when he gained weight to go on disability and began wearing a "moo moo"...I know that's not the right spelling but you get the point.

In my book, a robe and a housecoat are two different things.
A robe is tied around the middle and is often used in the morning and often before and after a shower.
A house coat is worn by women, buttons or zips up the front. In a different era, they were used while house cleaning or just goofing off around the house, so as to not get your dress dirty. Often they had really bad flowery prints.

Wow...I haven't heard the word housecoat since I was in grade school. My mom was the only one who ever called it a housecoat, but I never did. Thanks for the memories. My "housecoat" was ivory with red roses. Yikes!

Where I live (Ontario, Canada) everyone calls it a houseboat. You'd get funny looks to call it a bathrobe

OMG, thats what my grandmother used to say!
My mom uses it too!
I say robe or housecoat actually...so both.
Is it a Midwest thing or a generational thing?

I get out of the shower, and I wear my bathrobe around the house. And it keeps me warm. They are both, depending on how YOU use it.
