if iv been on that for 12 days, would i be protected enough against getting pregnant if we were also to use a condom?

Yes, you should be ok when it comes to protection against pregnancy. For many brands the information says protection occurs after 7 days (I've noticed this with brands I've taken). I would recommend checking with your doctor as well though to see what they say.
