It's because in Europe those are mainly high tax's and regulations on the gas. Also america is a big place we have to ship things and it hurts the economy. On the 2nd one we are a free market economy a 75% tax rate actually gets you less tax's and when you ecnourage people not to work you get a lot of people who don't work and don't produce. And if you punish people for producing they will go someplace where there not punish. To the first poster who said they want to go to europe personally I would avoid Europe for the next year or two the whole socailist EU utopia the amercian left like to talk about is about to come crashing down on the europeans. You can't have debt without paying it off. Next to that 1% sales tax increase there is though legitmate crticsem that americans don't like taxes. We do need to raise tax's. The 1% sales tax is local and I don't know your local system however it should be up to the potlicans to sell you why it is needed. If people know there tax's are going to benefit the community they will gladily give. But if it's going to go to the mayors prostuite and beer drinking fund they might not be so eager.

Not quite sure what you mean as Europe does not use $. (Dollars)
Main currency is the Euro €, but there is also the British £, and the Scandinavian Krone.
However ----------- This MAY help!
$1 = €0.61 (61 Euro cents)
$1 = £0.45 (45 Pence)
$1 = Krona 5.74 Sweden
$1 = Kroner 4.42 Denmark
$1 = Kroner 4.71 Norway
If you need more information, add it to you question.
