It still is! XXXX is the finest grind, 10X (ultrafine or superfine) sugar is the finest powder and what you will find on your grocery shelves. It is interchangable with XXX fine.

Did you know they mix powdered sugar with 3% cornstarch to prevent it clumping?

EDIT: Donya, Castor sugar is just very fine sugar. My container of bar sugar says Castor Sugar. It is just superfine sugar that dissolves very fast.

No but I have cookbooks from my grandmother calling for castor sugar and I could never figure that out either.

I beleive because iy was ground up 4 times (4x) more than regular "granulated" sugar Its also called "super fine" for this reason

It is still xxxx today. Hasn't changed a bit. It means it is very fine.

I can't remember why but the flour and bags all had XXX's on them. I thought is was the weight.
