Nope.
You should; however, stop the device when removing it. There's a little thingy on the lower right hand side of your computer with a little green arrow pointing down you need to double-click to do so.
Once the box pops up click stop, then choose the name of the stick and stop it.
Your computer will say "It's now safe to uninstall device" or something close to that.

you should not need to. However, some of the newest flash drives are coming with software to install. I use them without installing the software and they work fine.
Restart your pc to see if it sees the flash drive. If not, then you should go to the flash drive's manufacture website and search fro drivers to download.

What version of Windows are you running?
Older versions (win98, WinME) had limited USB support. Something may be wrong with your memory stick, try it in another machine.
