That's hard. A 40 gallon is the very smallest a beardie of any age should have. But I plan to get a 65 that I have found in a reptile shop near me (my baby is in a 20 gallon until January). A 40 that is fun and that he is taken out of probably is OK -- as long as he also comes out sometimes, has good temps in there and is happy. More is always better.

My 1.5 yr old Bearded Dragon lives in a 40 gallon tank. Is that too small for him?

A 40 gallon breeder is the minimum size he should have. I prefer larger if possible. My guy is in a 75 gallon and quite happy. Larger enclosures have been proven to lower stress in reptiles.

40 Gal is the VERY minimum recommended for a BD.

The standard minimum size for a viv is 4x2x2.
It's very easy and economical to build your own...
