Linear Search – Specification?

Question

Im having trouble solving this:

Given an array a of integers and an integer x. The program SEARCH
searches for an occurrence of x in a. If x occurs in a, the result i is the
index of the occurrence. If x does not occur in a, the result i equals to
the size of the array.
