Being unsure why you are asking, I will add this info:
Roman numerals are a possible area to which you may be referring. If so, these are some basic symbols:
Symbol Value
I 1 (one) (unus)
V 5 (five) (quinque)
X 10 (ten) (decem)
L 50 (fifty) (quinquaginta)
C 100 (one hundred) (centum)
D 500 (five hundred) (quingenti)
M 1000 (one thousand) (mille)
Since X means 10, and D means 500, XD would mean 490, as the smaller #, when shown before the larger, is to be subtracted.
If you had written DX, it would have been 510, as the smaller # following the larger, is added to it.
