wishes to co pay towards her treatment for breast cancer. But has been told if she does she will have to pay the entire amount each month which will amount to £10,000. Ministers say it is not fair on patients who cannot afford to pay anything. Who is correct . Is it fair .Your opinion please.

All she wants to do is to pay for one drug that is not available on the NHS from her trust in addition to the cancer treatment that she is getting on the NHS. Her chances will be better if she gets the additional drug that they won't provide.
Why can't she top up the NHS treatment with a drug paid for privately? She can't afford to pay for the whole treatment. It's ridiculous and I hope the NHS trust will allow her to buy the drug that she needs.

Edit: Grace above:
She can't afford to pay for her treatment - that's the whole point. The drug she wants to pay for will improve her chances if taken in conjunction with her NHS treatment - but they won't let her pay for that herself. The drug costs a fraction of the overall cost of her NHS treatment. Not allowing her to pay for it is incomprehensible.

I haven't seen the news about this, but a relative of mine recently had Breast Cancer, paid to go private for the surgery and then reverted to the NHS for the rest of the treatment, surely this woman could do something like that? Or as someone else has said here, donate a certain amount of money to charity, and stay with the NHS.

I find this utterly incomprehensible.
If she can afford to pay for her treatment then why not?
It'll take the strain off the NHS and give someone else an opportunity to get treatment.
How is donating to a cancer charity going to improve her life when its now she needs the treatment?

Well what do you expect?
It is cheaper for the NHS to ensure that you pop your clogs than cure you. Cynical but true
for all the noises politicians make life is cheap

did it have to become a pick on foreiners question?
i dont know which one is right i think she should have it if she is willing enough to pay half but then i can see the point about people who cannot afford it.
