I just yesterday bought a copy of FFXII, and to my dismay when I put in the game and turned on my PS2 it told me that I needed to plug in a Daulshock 2 controller. I am currently using an older PS1 controller(my PS2 one broke) and it works with all the other functions of a PS2.
Is it the game or do i need a new controller and if i need a new controller can someone point me in the direction of a cheaper one

You do need a Dualshock PS2 controller for Final Fantasy XII. I'll be honest with you, I cannot recommend a cheaper brand controller. I've had nothing but problems with off-brand controllers, so I only buy the Sony brand. The cheaper off-brand controllers break easily, and sometimes do not function properly. I recommend checking at GameStop, EB Games, or Gamecrazy for affordable Sony brand controllers.

yeah, most ps2 games are like that. they wont support anything short of dualshock 2 which only ps2 controllers have. a place where you could get a new controller for cheap would be a gaming store like EBgames.
