Thoughtful question.

I took notes for disabled high school students for 7 years. First sutdent was deaf, second was quadriplegiac. I've been through highschool math 3 times including my original graduating attendance in 1973.

1. Both. A struggling, interested student can succeed, a natural can excell. It all depends on how motivating the teacher is. I had the pleasure of attending classes led by brilliant, interesting, informative teachers. They made Math beautiful, practical, easy, and fun.

2. Learning the Laws, Properties, and Order of Operationis makes consistancy in math. If you know and understand these properties, math is a piece of cake.

3. Absolutely.

4. There are Order of Operations...Rules of Equality (basic stuff) There are ways to solve every problem, depending on the discipline. Alg, Geom, Trig, Calc.... and formulas and "math trick secrets" for all.

5. See 4

1. I think that it is mostly on natural ability but your interest does matter. I am really good at math and a rarely do my homework [though I do pay attention during class] and I still have an A+ in my math class. I do extremely well on tests[I'm talking 100% on every test, and no, I am not exagerating or trying to show off, I'm just telling it like it is], and I see other of my peers who really try to excell but struggle so much. They do alright but if they haad no interest whatsoever, they would a lot worse.

2. Yes, the more, the better

3. I dont think they could be like a genuis, but they could certainly be very good at it. To be a genius, I think, you haave to have a natural abilty for it.

4. No, not everything takes a formula, sometimes you just figure things out.

5. Half and half

I'm still in high school and taking math classes
