A poem that is a song.

Almost any song is a poem, but if you want something original I'll post one.
It's a short little rhyme that can be sang to the tune of 'Yellow Rose of Texas' or 'Ghost Riders in the sky'.

I hear the flapping of your wings,
The beating of your heart.
I feel the softness of your touch,
I know that we can't part.
I see the hues of red and black,
Of pink and purple too.
I see the pretty polka dots,
of yellow, green, and blue.
So flap your wings and fly with me,
Up in the azure skies.
And folks can look at us and see,
Two pretty butterflies.

this could get all subjective, you know. i think your best bet is john berryman's dream songs collection.

"dream song 14"

Life, friends, is boring. We must not say so.
After all, the sky flashes, the great sea yearns,
we ourselves flash and yearn,
and moreover my mother told me as a boy
(repeatedly) 'Ever to confess you're bored
means you have no

Inner Resources.' I conclude now I have no
inner resources, because I am heavy bored.
Peoples bore me,
literature bores me, especially great literature,
Henry bores me, with his plights & gripes
as bad as achilles,

Who loves people and valiant art, which bores me.
And the tranquil hills, & gin, look like a drag
and somehow a dog
has taken itself & its tail considerably away
into mountains or sea or sky, leaving
behind: me, wag.
