"According to Bernardo de Galvez’s strategic plan, before invading Jamaica, the island of New Providence in The Bahamas, where the capital of the archipelago, Nassau, stands, should be invaded, since the British could launch a counterattack from it. The island had been captured by American forces under John Paul Jones in 1776 and in 1778, but they had been recovered by the British."
For different purposes, they both were fighting the British in the Caribbean.
