After a graduate student finishes his PhD in physics, and spends many years as a postdoc while trying to find a permanent university position, he finally gives up and goes to "industry". There, large bugs carry him down into dark catacombs where they pin him to the ground with their legs so that a huge maggot-like creature called a "brain bug" can poke a hole in his skull with its sharp hollow proboscis and suck his brain out. The information in his brain is then used to slightly improve consumer products until the information is obsolete. The brain is then digested to feed the brain bug, and crapped out.
