Actually, I do believe there is such a thing as absolute truth. The state of the universe is what it is and not otherwise; certain facts are therefore absolutely true and certain other assertions, contrary to those facts, are absolutely false.

However, this absolute truth is of no practical value whatever, since we are limited in our capacities and incapable of discerning most of what is true or untrue. Moreover, we are capable of creating things (stories, poems, art, music, paradoxical arguments) which are true in some sense and false in some other sense.

We are ferreting out little scraps of what may be truth, in that they seem to work for us as far as we have tested them. That is, any notion we manage to work our minds around is, at best, a relative truth. But that doesn't deny the existence of absolute truth, even though it is a far more practical application.

If I say that 'all Truth is absolute' then I am taking a position which I cannot ultimately defend - I cannot prove an absolute where there is a demonstrable exception or where an exception can be imagined.

If I say that 'all truths are relative' I am making a claim for an absolute truth in saying that.

The absolute truth is not relative and has to be a personal discoveryrealization.
The other truth is relative - once upon a time the earth was flat; then it became round; now it is slightly oblong.

Truth must be absolute, if it isn't absolute truth, it is only part truth, so it is now all truth. Truth must be absolute because if it is a relative entity, everyone is right. If i say that gravity doesn't exist, then gravity would not exist. However, we both know it does. The idea of relative truth is consistent with insanity.

Because truth is that which is agreed upon.
