It can be a good thing, particularly for people who have been severely burned, or disfigured due to an accident or a disease. Well... that wouldn't be cosmetic, then would it?
Cosmetic surgery is not a good thing, no. It raises the status quo for what is expected, and it affects the self esteem of those who cannot live up to those unrealistic expectations.

Cosmetic surgery has always been an issue I've been torn on. If it's for absolute reconstruction after a disease or accident and your face is not recognizable as a face without it, then I think that there is something to be said for way of life. Also, if you can't function without it, then by all means have the surgery.
But where I've always been torn is when it's not "necessary". I generally say no. You were given a healthy body, you should find confidence from who you are, not what you look like. But there are people who's lives have been completely altered by their physical appearance. These are the people that I never know what to say to.
Overall, I think it's a good thing. But when it becomes an addictive process, I think it's bad.

I think it sucks! It's like lying, if you are a 54 year old woman, it doesn't matter...you STILL can't compete with a 20 year old.
I believe in growing old gracefully, taking care of my skin. Those who have to have surgery to improve their looks have to obsess about the natural effects of gravity on the body. It's hilarious when the face looks 30 and the body 70!
Then again, if I had millions to blow...I might just choose to leave a gorgeous corpse! None of us get out of here alive!
Good Question! Nana

I don't like surgery. This is for people who are insecure about themselves so they think they can "fix" something they don't like. At sometimes it can be alright just so it can boost your confidence but its addicting to some people who usually end up regretting surgery. If its to get a body part rearranged after an accident its okay but... i don't think it'd be a good idea

I agree with the first poster.
I understand the temptation because I don't especially relish the prospect of getting old and sagging, but it's not good to spend so much money and unnecessarily take the risks associated with surgery.

I like what Anthony Spears has said, they have said it very well, I think it's good if you have had a terrible accident etc.
But to have it done just because you want to look younger or have fake boobies or something is just wrong imo. In the end they are going to get old and sag anyway so why not just learn to live with it??

in a way good, i mean, if it makes you feel better about yourself theres nothing wrong with that. its their choice on how they want to look. but its also bad because theres a point where you'll find so much things about yourself that you hate then they'll become obsessed about surgery then end up looking like a barbie doll..plastic.

In moderation, do it once to get rid of the things that have bugged you all your life, and roll back the years a bit, but don't keep going back and back until you look like a freak (i.e Jackie Stallone)

Sometimes it is a good thing, like if your face is mutalated in a car accident, or if you were born with a defect, but if you just want bigger boobs, or a smaller nose, it is a bad thing

I think it's good if for Reconstruction if you've been in an accident, but not just for vanity or trying to look younger
