because of all the hidden salt and sugar they hide in junk cos it tricks the taste buds into going into overload hence lovely taste . healthy food doesn't do this as it has the right balance of things so it doesn't over whelm the senses. or something like that i once read about it in a Sunday supplement but i wasn't paying that much attention as i was too busy eating a big mac

I have always had a varied diet and very little junk food. The stuff rammed down my throat by experts as healthy is usually missing something is the taste department. There are of course many exceptions. there is one thing that does puzzle me and that is often food smells far better than it tastes. I hope it is not age that causes this

Taste was originally a mechanism of the body to tell whether or not something we were eating is good or bad for us. For example, if something was sour, it was generally assumed by to body to be dangerous, since the food in question was not ripe yet. As well, many poisons are sour or bitter. But, I don't really know why junk food tastes better. I guess its just the scientest appealing to our tastes buds. It would actually make more sense for good food to taste better. In many cases it does. I'd rather have a bowl of fresh raspberries over a bag of swedish berries any day.

I find it the other way round - that junk food and over-processed meals never ever taste as nice as the stuff I make myself at home.
I think it's what you get used to, I rarely eat junk food so it tastes very over-processed to me and too salty/sugary.

I read before that the manufacturers put a lot of preservatives and stuff in junk food to make it taste nice and to get people hooked on it.

Lack of added sugar, salt and fat.

These are the things that make food taste "better" and also that make you fatter...

To taste really nice, food has to either be unhealthy or incredibly fresh.

Its hard to get really fresh food though, unfortunately. Can't beat a meat and veg slow clooked stew! mmmmm and very healthy!

Believe me it tastes a whole lot better than junk stuff. Especially if you make it yourself. Like so many things, you have to get used to the new flavours and textures, but when you do......! You wont go back!
