Ok try the pension and their "career" record as performance related.

Just for Telboy,i have waited 3 days for a copper to arrive at a crime scene, yes poorer neighbourhood (limited resources he said)Also i had to threaten a police senior inspector in G.B with the newspapers before they sent an officer to deal with a man assaulting a minor (child),all the witnesses were waiting and by the time they sent an officer the victim was in hospital, the witnesses had left, the perpitrator was home and i had called no less than four times.

Simon H, yours is a bad story in any bodies book, the whole scenario needs to be brought to the attention of your MP I suggest strongly that you should do exactly that,
Regarding the pay and back date, the problem as I understand is that a long standing pay negotiation method awarded the rise, then that decision was overturned by the Home Sec
I cannot see the objection to the pay or the back pay it is what was agreed and sanctioned by government I notice we do not hear of any MPs pay being handled this way why not ? good for the goose etc.

(1) a deal's a deal, man. If it was the right deal then, it's still the right deal, so pay up. If it was the wrong deal, why did the gov agree to it in the first place?
(2) no - that's a fantasy - "performance" in police work is too full of intangibles to measure.
You can give performance related pay to people whose goals are straightforward and within their own control. How can you measure performance in
- hours in court witness waiting rooms, waiting for judges to get back from long lunch breaks?
- preventing future crime by giving talks to school kids?
- making sure you got the right guy?
All the cops I ever met had no problem with motivation. What annoys them most is management BS.

The police in the USA are now the fund raising branch of the government. Fines and fees are a large source of income now for government. The government simply passes new laws and sets high fine levels to snare otherwise law abiding people into paying into the fund. The police will soon be able to be replaced with illegal aliens for all the good they do. It's becoming us against them and that is a shame.

Pay rises in UK are generally back-dated to start at the end of a previous agreement. if that does not happen and is not understood the agreement has ended and they should stop work until a new one is in being,. Obviously no one can work like that so people carry one until an impasse is reached
As always HM like to move the goal posts when it suits them and then whine when people take it badly. This is yet another example of this governments total incompetence and untrustworthiness

The police and their union officials should calm down. They should realise they are not a special case on this issue. Nurses and other key workers have always had their annual pay rises staged without the noise and commotion we have seen from the police since the announcement their pay rise will be made in two instalments.

Yes if the politicians can pay themselves millions of pounds in expenses then they can pay the Police. It's not always the fault of the Officers that they can't attend crimes at once, again blame the government for all the red tape and paperwork.

by the way in defence of the English cops the cops in Scotland have had there wage rise backdated so is this discrimination or what

This is one of the issues the police have with their pay review. They want it back dated to the time that it was due. The paymasters want to pay it from the day that the negotiations for the amount are agreed.
Happy Christmas.
