"Ask what not your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
I may not compete internationally, like a math quiz bee or something and I may not be a world class athlete but here are some of the little things that I contribute thus making my country be proud of me. I study real hard so I could finish school, get a job, pay my taxes and not contribute to the growing population of jobless. I obediently follow the traffic rules and pedestrian signs. I throw and segregate my garbage properly. I say 'opo' and still make 'mano' to the elderly. Nothing much but I know somehow, I make a difference.
So, Let's hear your input.

While my good friends have made our country proud by being such worthy "ambassadors" (in fact, including my entire family - - - I am the only one left here, all my brothers and my only sister are also "ambassadors"), I have STAYED BEHIND to prove to myself that our country offers the same opportunities right here.
My family was convincing me to join them in Australia. My friends were egging me on, explaining the opportunities for a good future in that rich foreign land. My family was actually right, they all did well, and are doing well THERE.
My gut-feel told me I could make it here. And having moved to positions of responsibilty, I played the role of an "Exhibit" more than an ambassador. That Filipinos can stand their ground in regional and global business conferences. That a Filipino can be a top regional officer, without moving his base to HongKong or Singapore, that I could make the Philippines the regional center, specific to my role.
My country should also be proud of me for being a model citizen. I pay all of my taxes honestly and on time. I follow traffic rules, and I have only been ticketed for violation once, and chose to pay the fine than to bribe and get off easily.
Overall, I think I have been a good person, and people who have known me will likely attest to that. I say this without bragging, for it is the truth and I speak this truth if only to be a positive influence on people around me.

Kinda odd quoting a foreign politician for such patriotic issue. But anyway, first, like G said, it's "Ask not what.." not "Ask what not.." and I think the Philippines should be proud of me because I am one of those Filipinos who is proud to be a Filipino. I stand by Filipino values. I say po and opo, and I study hard to someday work for the Philippines. I try my best to be a model to younger Filipinos. Bottomline, I think the Philippines should be proud of me because I believe in the Philippines.

I am not one to brag about my little achievements that may make my country proud of me. All I can say is that I have been a law-abiding citizen since I reached the age of maturity, been a stalwart advocate of anything Filipino, pay my taxes and dues, etc. and most of all, I contribute in a way to giving employment to idle but deserving Filipinos.

This is the most recognizable JFK quote. I love it.
And so my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
As for your question:
The Philippines should be proud of me because I am using America's money (scholarship) to be educated in theatre management (I'm currently working on Broadway as part of my scholarship) so I can come back and build an educational theatre for the disadvantaged youth in the Philippines. Haha.

In our own little way I'd like to believe we all make a difference. In my particular case, I try my best to behave (translation: not do anything foolish like laugh boisterously or dress indecently). Being in a foreign country, I do standout coz I look different...it becomes even more important that in public I am the paragon of good behavior because I represent my nation and my people to these foreigners. So far, so good...no arrests yet. I hope my country is proud of me as I am of her! MABUHAY!

The Philippines should be proud of me because I have chosen to stay despite the tribulations of the past decades. I have chosen to stay to serve the people by way of delivering my professional services which I acquired from the Philippines

coz I'm proud of Philippines that I usually endorse my beloved motherland to all my foreign friends. I told them that in spite of all the bad comments (especially corruptions.) I'm proud of what our country can offer to our tourists. namely the 7,107 islands in the Philippines where you will experience the unique charm of my historic land. People are naturally warm, friendly and hospitable.
My country is rich of culture & history, then you will discover more pristine white beaches, rain forests, mangroves, corals, marine sanctuaries & so much more. Then the Philippines is the world's third largest English-speaking country after the UK & the US then Philippines is the largest Christian country in Asia.... <*-*>

you gave a terrific observation.
generally a country is composed of regular people just like you & me. who are expected to do if not who should do all those things you have mentioned & more.
& then if there are a lot of people who would do the same, then that is when a difference happens.
& of course, it also helps to believe in God to act accordingly.
"saludo ako sa yo!" (i salute you)
