They are not considered old in the realm of coin collecting. They are spendable dates. From 1900 and up, coinage mintage's through out the world have gone from the thousands to the millions and finally billions. It will take sometime for them to get lost or melted. Don't give up for there are rare coins out there, as well as older ones. These days doubled die cents bring a premium as well as other so-called error coins.

I don't know their worth but copper can be cleaned by soaking them in ketchup. Shallow bowl and lay your pennies in a single layer. Soak and try to wipe with a cloth. No limit on how long you can soak, the ketchup won't harm the finish.
