You are aware that anybody can change any entry to anything they want at any time, right?

Guy - By "a valid source of information" I mean "a source that provides accurate, valid information". I thought that was explicit.

I have read many comments by Yahoo users about the inaccuracies of Wikipedia and agree with them.

It depends what you mean by "a valid source" of information. When is a source valid? You can use any source you want to.

There is no such thing as absolute accurate and valid information. With every piece of information you find you have to be critical. Everything is written with the subjective view of the author. You can't escape this. It is your job as a reader to ask the questions:

- Who has written this?
- What is the evidence?
- Can others confirm the information?

You should not depend on others to determine the "validity" of sources.

No you can't (change any entry to anything you want at anytime.)

If this were true do you really think it would look like it does?
For example take a controversial issue like abortion. That page would literally change every 5 minutes if people truely had the power you say they do.

It only looks like you are changing it but in reality it gets reviewed and its really not that easy to change.

Wiki is not the best source; however, for the most part it's pretty reliable.

Wikipedia is a great source of free information. The believability of the articles in Wikipedia depends on how well the article is referenced and the reliability of the references cited. That said, there are also certain articles in Wikipedia which are biased, unreferenced and based on opinions, these articles should be rejected.

Because it is readily available and easier to use than another encyclopedia or resource. Since much of it is factual many think it is all factual.

As you state anyone can alter info or add info whether it is right wrong or otherwise. Unfortunately there are some around that will alter facts to fiction as that is the way they view it.

Such is the world we live in online.

It's fast and easy and is a reliable source on most simple subjects.

You're right though, overall, it's a joke and has to be taken with caution like you would take listening to a political radio blowhard.

That is a fact, but most people don't change stuff just to change it.

By the way, some studies say that wikipedia is as accurate as other sources of information.

Because it is open to peer review (by the public) and for many things, yes, it is reliable.
