Well, from my experience it has always been Willow/Garlic Ear Oil from Herbs for Kids.
On a recent trip to Branson for the Silver Dollar City Festival of Lights, my nieces both ended up with earaches, probably from standing in the cold night air. Anyway when we got back to our room I remembered that I had some of the ear oil with me. We put it in both girls ears and the youngest one (3) was better in only a short time but the older one (5), she would get better and then after awhile start crying again. After we put the warmed oil in about 3 times, she finally settled down for the night. They both were doing fine the next morning but we put more drops in as a preventative and continued doing so throughout our trip.
When we returned home my sister-in-law took the girls in to be checked out. The younger one had a minor ear infection and the older one had a busted eardrum but the doctor said he couldn't believe that it was almost healed up in such a short amount of time. I have used this for myself and it has always worked.
Hope this helps.

Olive oil infused with mullein flower; you can find it at the health food store. You can also sip on mullein tea if you have allot of dampness, or phlegm.

Go to the doctor and get drops or antibiotics. I tried all the herbal alternatives down to burning cones in my ears and suffered for years until I went to a western doctor, got some medicine, and was better in days.
If the infection gets to the inner ear you could really be in trouble.

Mullein flowers steeped in olive oil with just a bit of tea tree essential oil can do the trick. It is good to take mullein leaf tea internally (safe for children) to clear up the underlying dampness. An effective internal antibiotic for adults is goldenseal, and for children echinacea (goldenseal is too strong).
