Absolutely do not put hydrogen peroxide on a burn!!!! Please!

The peroxide will just kill any of the healthy granulation tissue that is forming there under the old blister and you will end up leaving your son with a scar. He will end up with one anyway - but putting H2O2 on there will ensure that it will be deep and lasting.

Wash the area gently with soap and water, then keep it covered with an antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Try to make sure he keeps the bandage dry and clean. Do this a couple times a day (in the AM and PM before bed).

If your son developed a blister then it wasn't a 3rd degree burn - 3rd degree burns just leave ash and char - no place for a blister to form. So it sounds like he has a bad 2nd degree. Poor guy!

If you notice any new redness or red streaking or purulent drainage (dark yellow or green pus) around the site of the burn bring him to the doctor right away.

Good luck!

PS - Aloe is great for mild 1st degree burns - and honey might be ok too - but they should not be used on a burn that has created a blister.

The BEST routine would be to get him to a burn unit and under their therapy.

Among other things, Silvadene cream is used liberally on the burn area (silver metal compounds have good anti- infection characteristics).

It's important to soak the burned area in a saline solution, somewhat barely lukewarm, then scrub the dead skin away from the burn area to promote healing and to lessen scarring- A VERY PAINFUL PROCESS, but very effective to healing process.

I caught my hand on fire after it was soaked in gasoline, and the burn charred the skin on the knuckles, fingers, and lifted the skin off my palm, as well as charred portions of the forearm. I went to a surgeon who loosely bandaged the hand and right arm, who then sent me to a burn unit for therapy. It was tough, but after not quite 2 weeks, most of the burned area was healing well, and about the only scars I have left are those in between the lower joints of the Middle and Ring fingers.

YOU SON NEEDS PROFESSIONAL HELP and NOW!

JM had excellent advice. I'd add that if the burn is deep or large and is on a knuckle he should probably see a doctor to make sure scarring won't limit his joint mobility.

Try to get a live aloe vera plant and use the juice from the leaves on his burns. I always try to keep living aloes where I cook, and I give any extra plants that grow to friends and family.

Use hydrogenperoxide first then goto your local drug store and buy an ointment specifically for burns.Toothpaste will help drying out a blister if one has formed, make sure to keep it covered during the day.
