what will it do to the catalysts in the engine etc?

well methanol is mixed with gas so if its properly mixed its not so bad

I assume you mean catalysts in the (older type of) catalytic converter exhaust ???

Plainly, if you designed your engine to run on methanol you would take into account such things ...
