Practise. Look in magazines at models or celebs with similar colouring to yourself and note which colours and techniques they use. If you go into a department store like Debenhams or somewhere like the Body Shop you can often get free makeovers and they'll give you tips and advice. Also with eye makeup it's important to use good quality brushes.

It all depends on your eye shape. If they're quite small, put a lighter colour in the middle of your eyelid, a darker one on your upper lid and inner corners, and darker still on the outer corners. Blend with a brush, then add eyeliner along top lid, close as you can to your lashes. Finish with a few coats of mascara.

There are loads of books on the subject that may help you more, just have a look in your local Waterstones or WH Smith.

Why not contact a Mary Kay consultant in your area? She will walk you through the steps of a good skin care regimen AND colour application. You will be working from single use samples and learn about eye shapes and facial contouring. The number one reason women don't where colour cosmetics, is because they don't know how to apply them. Congrats on taking the first steps in looking good; it will help you to feel great.

Choose a look that you prefer go to maccosmetics.com and click email an artist. They will email you with specifications and color advise (which you don't have to buy, since it is expensive for some, just go to the website again and choose some colors that you already have and match them with their recommendations), if that doesn't work you should try going to dior.com or chanel.com where they have eye makeup applying videos.

I learned by playing around. I use AVON products to learn how to apply makeup. I look at different pictures and try to replicate what I see. The makeup products are really reasonable.

You can go on the internet and look at some practice videos. Then you have to practice and practice. Don't frustrate yourself and soon you'll be doing it for other people too!
