i need to build a frame that needs to be 8 feet tall 12 feet wide and 22 feet long.... so 8x12x22... it only needs to be able to stand up for about 9 days and will have no stress on it besides the tarps used for walls.... so my question is, what material would be the best and/or cheapest way to build something like this....

most lumber yards have seconds (boards nobody want) but if this is a temp go with the seconds

I've always liked PVC pipe for this kind of thing. Because of the 22' length, I'd probably use 1 1/2 pipe since it's stiffer than smaller dia. You'll need 4 elbows, a few couplers and enough pipe to make the frame. In all likelihood, you won't need to glue it together, the tension on the tarps should hold it in one piece. Best of all, when the need is over, you can disassemble for storage. One hint though, never underestimate the power of the wind - it can cause problems with even permanents structures.

The use of seconds from the lumber yard is a good idea but
If you are building this outside, don't say the only stress will be the tarps.

If you get any wind at all, there can be a lot of lateral load and if there are any openings, then vertical load as well.

Now, if you can get snow or sleet then there is another load.

If the top has any "bags or sags" and it rains then add in the weight of the water that will accumulate.

i take you need a tent for the new year - great idea.

dont build as the cost will be high. also if you use timber it is heavy and dangerous in wind.

if it is as temporary as you say, try and string 3 lines in triangle configuration ,', - apex and 2 sides, and just drape tarp over. secure the side to the floor and away you go

I would use 1x3 strapping. Just make sure you use enough bracing, also made from 1x3s, to keep everything rigid. Lots of ice fishing shanties are made this way with fabric walls. They stay out exposed to wind and snow all winter long.
