Even though Clemente left his homeland to pursue his dream to play baseball at the highest level, he continued to live there in the off-season. He never did forsake his country for the U.S. and remained a Puerto Rican to his death. He loved his Puerto Rico and donated to many charitable causes there in order to improve the quality of life for many of his countrymen. Unfortunately, it was his compassion for his fellow human beings that led to his untimely death. A great baseball player and a great humanitarian!

Too bad that he is dead, otherwise I would have directed you to ask him that. A great baseball player doesn't have to be born in the United States. Now are you saying that he should have stayed in Puerto Rico. I am not sure what got him to come to the United States and play base over here, but maybe because Puerto Rico, might not have had very good (if any) baseball teams for him to play on. Now iot is because Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, is that black people can now play in the Major Leagues, andt not just for white people, while blacks have to have thier own seprate leagues. Now that we know that he died in plane crash while taking medical supplies to Nicaragua, would that have prevented his death, who knows, but whether he was a famous baseball player or not, that didn't stop him from making the plane to Nicaragua, althrough it didn't crash into the ocean, but still he came hear and proved that he could play baseball. Snf if he didn't, he might not have been famous, evne through he has been dead since 1972, and plus that accident happened on New Year's Eve.

Take a look at this website, that I have in the source box, I found this after I wrote the answer that he did play in winter leagues, and even how he ended up coming to the United States to play baseball.

I'm pretty sure he left his homeland to come to the USA to play baseball. That's where the Major Leagues are located.
