Your baby's little body is not meant to handle any type of solids til they are at least 5-6 months old. I cannot say enough about this subject and don't want to go crazy on you, so I will further say it is a myth that it will make him sleep, if that's your reasoning and 60% of all adults that were fed solids before 4 months of age are now diabetic adults. There's just a few reason for ya not to.

Don't make this decision on your own. Talk to your son's pediatrician first. Also, there are age recommendations on the box of cereal. I'm sure the box doesn't say it's OK to give a 2 month old cereal! The box will also have the mixing instructions. Follow them when the doctor says it's OK to feed your son cereal. He's too young right now.

I started my daughter a little early (not quite as young, maybe 3 months) and I mixed formula with a few tsps of rice cereal.

To be honest I stopped doing it after trying a few times. bc she didn't really 'get it'

I waited until she knew to open her mouth for the spoon. That was a good indicator for me.

Couldn't you just deal with sleep deprivation a little longer instead of messing up with your son's immature digestive system?

"Does adding cereal to a baby’s formula help them sleep through the night?

I do not recommend adding cereal to the formula. Sleeping though the night is not just a matter of filling up. Little stomachs can only hold so much. Adding cereal to formula makes each feeding less nutritious in terms of calcium, other minerals, fats, and protein. Feed your formula-fed infant all the formula she needs to satisfy her. She will sleep through the night when she is ready. (About half the bottle-fed infants are sleeping through the night at 8 weeks; half are not. Breast-fed infants normally wake for middle-of-the-night feedings for quite a while longer.) Your New Baby & Sleep; MSNBC

Cereal in the Bottle may lead to overeating:

"I’m much more concerned about a subtler issue. Babies are born with a wonderful mechanism for knowing how much food they need. During the early months, they take their cues from the volume of what they drink. Adding cereal derails this mechanism. It forces them to take in deceptively large amounts of calories. It teaches them to overeat." Dr. Greene on Cereal in the Bottle for Sleep"

And so and so....

It really depends on how you want to start feeding him. Many babies who are fed cereal early have it in their bottle and others get it on a spoon. A lot of people tell you not to feed cereal thru a bottle but i was directed by my doctor to do so because my son was having problems with the formula being to thin for him to drink and it was causing problems. other babies have it for other reasons. The best way to mix with formula in a bottle would be to use an old formula scoop and add 1 scoop of cereal to 2 ozs of formula. Only do this during day time feedings. Is you are going to try a spoon then mix it with enough formula or baby juice that it is thin enough that he can swallow without trying to chew. Most babies try to suck instead of chew at that young of an age. If it is too think it can cause his to choke so the thinner the better.

the reason i didnt do it is because when tehy are that young they have an imature digestive tract. when you give a baby something their gut cant handdle it can cause tiny holes called fissures(sp?) which can later cause digestive problems and allergic reactions to things- jsut because one baby is fine for the moment doesnt mean that it's ok-WHY WOULD YOU WNAT TO RISK YOUR CHILD'S health? why does she need it- so YOU get mroe sleep? just to let you know when i started my son on solidds he slept worse and not better- solids should always be given by spoon and not by bottle- i wouldnt want to drink my cereal. if you give the baby some bby spoon and they push it out with thei toung then they are def. not ready- please dont even risk your child's health- it could happen now or it cou ld happe when they are older jsut from something that simple- feeding a baby cereal in a bottle can also lead to childhood obesity and diabetes i think it's selfish whne people risk their childsd health just so they can get more sleep or whatnot. some babies do sleep better when tehy ahev it but only because there si more junk for them to process so it stay in tehir didgestive tract for a longer periood of time- if you were to eat carrots or apples or something you would be hungry again oo because your body ahs absorbed all of the great nutrients andd diddnt have to turn it into waste

i know u only want people to answer if they only have done this but I'm sorry i had to. it is not a gd thing to be giving babies any sort of solids at this age, their digestive system is not mature enough to handle it...why risk making your baby ill for the sake of a nights sleep? a babies belly is also tiny so s/he will only take what s/he can manage hence prob the same amount! please do not risk making your child poorly...there may be many who have got away with it but i know a woman who did it and her little boy is now very poorly. just be patient, your baby will settle at night soon xx

You are going to get answers you aren't going to want to hear, you can't ask a question in a PUBLIC forum and then expect only the answers you want to hear.

Talk to your doctor and read more about it before you decide to do this, this is a great article.

MY DAUGHTER WAS A MONTH AND A HALF WHEN WE STARTED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS JUST HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. WE ALSO STARTED GIVING HER APPLE JUICE, AND DILLUTE IT AND WATER ALSO. MY PEDIATRICIAN TOLD US NOT TO BUT YOU FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS. I BOUGHT A FEEDER FROM WALMART THATS JUST LIKE A BOTTLE..THEY HAVE THEM RIGHT BY THE SIPPY CUPS. AT FIRST WE JUST MADE IT A LITTLE RUNNY TILL SHE GOT USED TO IT THEN STARTED ADDING SOME FRUIT AT THE BOTTOM. MY SON IS 4 MONTHS RIGHT NOW AND WE ALSO STARTED HIM VERY EARLY AND WE STARTED HIM ON BABY FOOD AT 3 MONTHS BECAUSE HE WAS THE SAME WAY MY DAUGHTER WAS ALSO....ALWAYS HUNGRY. NOW MY SON GETS BABY FOOD IN THE MORNING AND AT NIGHT. AND HE SLEEPS NOW INSTEAD OF WAKING UP EVERY HOUR AND A HALF. ITS A PARENTS INTUITION ON WHEN TO START THE CEREAL AND FOOD. I WOULD JUST START WITH A FEW OUNCES OF CEREAL. IT TOOK MY SON A COUPLE DAYS TO GET USED TO IT.

I'm sorry to hear that you've decided to be so cavalier with your son's health. Do you want just one person to come and say "yup, I did that and everything turned out fine" and that will validate your decision for you? There are so many reasons why feeding solids at such a young age is detrimental, but you've obviously chosen to disregard them. I'm assuming you haven't sought out any advice from his doctor or even a baby website or book either.

I hope everything turns out okay for your son, but personally, I wouldn't take any chances with my child's health.
