its worth reading the whole thing

there's a bunch of good statistics, and apparently more than half of the population would be willing to marry for money alone :(

In my eyes, it's a lot more than a 10.

It's hard to live with someone and have things be peaceful all the time, and I know for a fact that I couldn't put up with a man unless I loved him. Even a lot of money wouldn't be enough to keep me happy.

I have met several people who have been married several times, and each time they set their goals on "marrying up" in the financial sense. It's interesting to talk with them because what they have doesn't really resemble a marriage--it is really more of a business contract where one provides sex and companionship in exchange for money and the ability to buy whatever they like.

The thing that always surprises me is when someone marries a gold-digger, and is surprised that it isn't a real marriage in the traditional sense. My mother has a friend whose ex-husband is a very wealthy and prominent doctor in our community. She was the one who worked one full-time and one part-time job to support him while he went to school. Once he had graduated and was just starting out, she went to work for him and actually worked longer hours than he did, as she did all his bookkeeping and records maintenance, as well as acting as his receptionist. His success was largely dependent on her. Somewhere around their 25th anniversary, he informed her that he was in love with his receptionist (the wife had long since moved on to doing what she wanted to do, which was raise their kids and teach school). If I remember correctly, he was nearly 50 and the receptionist was about 23. Because his practice was so successful, he was a millionaire, and he used a good chunk of his money on a good divorce attorney so that the first wife got very little in the divorce settlement. The amazing thing is that he was surprised when the new wife divorced him within three years, taking pretty much half of everything he had. She was very candid with him, as well, and told him that she had only married him for his money. For a doctor, the guy is pretty stupid, because I believe he's now on his fourth wife, and wife #3 really cleaned him out, too. He told one of his grown children, who in turn told his mother (my mom's friend) that he should have just stayed married to her, because he'd be ahead financially. Instead he has had to pay these huge settlements to get out of marriages to young hot women who were looking for a buck. I don't know how anyone could be that stupid.

Wow, what a depressing article...

I don't find it surprising in the least, especially as I live within a couple hours drive of NYC. I wouldn't marry for money - I have the intelligence to make my own, I don't need a man providing it for me. We, on the overall, are just a more materialistic society than we have been in years past and it shows.

About a 7. It's true that some people see dollar signs instead of love when they get married. It is sad.

7. Geesh, that is ridiculous. Money can be made and lost very quickly, but one doesn't find True love often...I'm marrying for love, not money. Peoples morals are declining and their selfishiness is rising...Sad.
