Our Sun will reach the end of it's life cycle by going into the Red Giant phase in about 5 billion years. As it grows in size, it will consume the planets Mercury and Venus. The intense heat emitted when the Sun expands this far will cook the Earth so intensely that no life forms will be able to exist.
This will not happen overnight. As the Sun begins to grow in size in about 2 billion years, life forms on Earth will begin to die out as the Earth continues to get warmer and warmer.

Life on earth will probably be totally extinct in about a billion years. Serious extinction will begin sometime after 100 million years, estimates vary. The reason is the brigntening of the sun, and certain chemical processes dealing with limestone.
Earth itself might be destroyed during the suns initial red giant stage in about 5 billion years. If the sun does not engulf the earth then, many billion years later during the end of the red giant phase, the sun will be unstable and the earth, and pretty much the rest of the solar system will be SERIOUSLY effected. Theres a good chance that before the final destruction, the moon will crash into the earth.

no one knows when the world will end. there has been many predictions and none of them have been right. Jesus doesnt even know. only thing i could tell you is it will end when god wants it to end. but scientifically some scientist say its when the sun burns out, which is a very long time away, and cant support life any longer or maybe from a comet or asteroid or like some ppl believe dec. 21 2012 when the myan calendar ends. but no one really knows.

"End" has many meanings.
In a billion years or so, the sun's solar output will have increased to the point that life as we know it will no longer exist on Earth.
In about five billion years, the sun will shift into its red giant phase. At that time, the Earth's orbit will have shifted out to about the distance of Mars and will probably remain in a stable orbit, but will remain uninhabitable.
When the sun collapses into a white dwarf, the shock wave that produces the planetary nebula will scour the surface of the Earth once again, but the Earth itself will probably remain intact and orbit the white dwarf until the end of time or until some other massive body disrupts the orbit.

Well, I saw on this show that the scientists predict the end of the world to be December 22, 2012. This is due to a big meteor that will hit Earth and wipe out humans. But, if they divert the meteor, it won't come back until April 2036.

The only thing that is known for sure is that the Sun will eventually run short of fuel and things will start going wrong. The Sun may swell to swallow the Earth. Best guess of when this happens is 4 to 5 thousand million years time.

It will most likley end when the sun finally goes red giant in a few billion years,,When our sun dies it will start to expand and become a red giant and swell up and consume the inner planets and burn them up, We wont be here to see that terrible day,, our star the sun does not have enough mass to go super nova,,

I don't know of _any_ scientist who bothers predicting when the world will end. We know of no scientific factors which would allow for such a prediction..

The world will naturally end in 4.5 billion years when our sun exhausts the hydrogen supply in its core and expands into a red giant.
In my opinion, however, there is a great possibility that humans will destroy this planet long before then.
