It is flabbergasting to see most people who posted a message for your question think Limewire is an illegal program. Obviously, the program is quite legal and there is nothing wrong with developing and selling it. However, you are the only one who is responsible for downloading and uploading songs and other kind of files, which means while you are allowed to exchange files not copyrighted by anyone or any company, you can not merely share copyrighted files without permission. This is ILLEGAL !!

YES. The software is legal. What you choose to do with it is up to you. Most of what is available is not legal. THERE ARE a few bands that have released songs to the public domain.

I use it. Lime wire will also give you the ability to get recordings of artists who have been dead along time and whose songs are not available.

What YOU do with Lime Wire is up to you. What is illegal is the media/recording you download.

Limewire itself is legal, as is bittorrent. it is illegal to use it to download copyrighted material without paying. You can download copies of songs and movies that you have purchased previously, and have proof. It is similar to how it is legal to own a gun but the legal use of it is very limited.

The software itself is completely legal. Downloading files with copyrights is not. In essence, the action is not, but the means of doing it is.

Nope. Just don't download a ton of songs at once and it won't look suspicious. If you do, you may get a pop up window on your screen that tells you to stop downloading because disciplinary action could come along. Just download a few songs at a time and you won't get caught.
