it is suppose to be that the girl looks for the same qualities in her future husband as she see in her father and so forth for the man in his mother but...i married a man that is nothing like my father...they are totally opposites....but he he very, very much like my grandfather....so i guess it works in some ways....i think you tend to gravitate towards qualities that you saw growing up....good...or bad....whatever influenced you the most is what you tend to pick out in a mate...

It's called the Electra complex and it's when women look for their fathers in a future spouse and men look for their mothers (Oedipus complex)

In my experience, about 90% of the time, I am very much like my date's father...or the exact opposite...which is kind of saying the same thing: they are looking at their dad as an example as well (a bad example, but still an example).

Good question. My daughter (unfortunately) married a man just like her father. My husband married me, who is the total opposite of his mother. I guess it goes both ways.

It is said that women look for a man who has the same qualities as their father....personally , I think that is rubbish.
