Then people in wheelchairs wouldn't need special ramps and such to reach the sink or the top of the stove? Wouldn't it be more practical?

Especially for those who take care of themselves, but are handicapped by the use of a wheelchair?

They DO, Wally - a friend of mine has one...young guy injured when he was younger in a hunting accident and is now a paraphlegic..the chair can raise up to the desired height...it also has a mechanism so that it can 'wheel' him around in a 'standing' position.

It might solve some problems, but I wonder if it would be dangerous because it would be top heavy. If the center of gravity is too high, the wheelchair could more easily fall over. It might be more practical or easier to make a house with low sinks and low appliances so that what you need is at wheelchair level.

They do. A man designed and made two for his twin daughters. The expense is great but, it does allow the girls to be very independent!

Edit: The chairs are not unsafe. They are balanced in such a way that when the seat is moved up or down it is equalized!
Here is their story. :

Unsafe. People would get up that high and fall out to get hurt. Or possibly, they could raise up that high, and the wheelchair would get stuck to where the person could not get down. If they're alone, that would be a big problem. Plus, it would be really hard to create one that would raise up and not fall over. Physically--if you have all that weight on top and nothing to balance it out, it's just going to fall over.

ALREADY A PATTEN ON IT - DARNED

MORE PRACTICAL BUT THEN WE WOULD HAVE TO REWRITE THE HANDICAPPED LAWS AND ACCESS LAWS FOR THE HANDICAPPED. NOT REAL PRACTICAL UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE MORE FEDERAL MONIES.
