it used to play dvds but now it won't and i don't konw why!! please help

Are you using the right kind or right format of DVD for your CD/DVD reader?
Are you putting the DVD's in the correct way (i.e., not upside-down)?
Some homemade DVD's use adhesive labels or handwriting directly on the DVD which might reflect (or absorb) the laser light, thus making it useless. Some folks even put the labels on the wrong side of the DVD!
It is possible (though highly unlikely) that the DVD software driver has become "corrupt". I doubt that you are computer-savvy (no offense!), so find someone who can help you reload that part of the software, if possible (you might be able to find the appropriate driver from the manufacturer's website, but make absolutely sure that it is for your computer's CD/DVD, or you'll wind-up with a worse mess!).
