Your statement is so true. From joining the Air National Guard and not serving in Vietnam with the help of his rich elite family from Connecticut. Then, to attending Harvard and Yale and being setup in the oil business and owing a baseball team, GWB would not have accomplished anything in his life without his rich family. Like most alcoholics and cocaine addicts, he would be living in a trailer park if it were not for his rich, elite and powerful family.

And!
Since when does taking a drunken header into the Broadmoor (Colorado) pond considered a good thing to have in your past?
How about the fact that most fly-boys will do ANYTHING to stay in their planes, while all W could think about was getting out of the reserves (in addition to avoiding the draft and getting a THC pipe-dream inspired business degree).
The fact is money, good PR, oil, and knowing how to cover your a*s got W elected the first time.
To win the second election, W used the logical fallacy of fear of the "bad guys," ie. radical Islam.
I mean, just "What DO you do with a Drunk'n Sailor?"
Rove, Cheney, and the rest of those modern-day bagmen are the brains behind everything W has or ever will think.

Meritocracy is the word neocons use to mean:
Those who have the privilege of being able to afford the best educations should rule over those who cannot. It is one way to ensure that the elite remain the elite.
That is not the true meaning of meritocracy. Notice how neocons are against things that allow disadvantaged children to compete with theirs, such as funding for education and equal access to health care. Meritocracy indeed!

Bush, despite his poor speaking skills, isn't stupid.
He can fly an F-4 Phantom jet. Can you?
He was the elected governor of Texas and was twice elected to the presidency. You?
It's the lib cry babies who see themselves as victims and want the government to make it fair. The libs don't want a merit based system because they couldn't compete in one.
Affirmative Action ring a bell?
PS Plenty of thumbs down, but not a soul to contradict me with facts.
Often, the last thing people want to hear is the truth.

Very good Question..... just what merit did he have. Since when running a failed baseball team makes you presidential material?
Just our luck, I guess!

I think ya_staff_sux's answer actually nailed it, although not in the way he/she intended...
They're about "winning" at all costs. Bush was clearly a poor choice, but he was their pony and that's all that mattered.

because at the time of election, the alternative was a liberal extremist that sat idly by and allowed the lowest benchmark in the history of the us presidency for lack of ethics, candor and honesty. the choice was quite clear.
