We all know better than that. And when they give out no bid contracts, they are not even trying to hide it.

The U.S. Government has specs that are unique to only Government use. The product must meet Government specs in order to be purchased, if not, businesses cannot compete for a bid. It could be a toilet seat, an air filter for the Abrams tank, or a replacement tire for a Humvee, because of Government specs and quantities purchased it's not as simple as going to Walmart to make a purchase. All products pressed into government service has to have the same attention to detail as being hand made.

Some businesses get a non-compete bid because they may be the sole source provider, another words a business that has the unique capacity to make a product, like Boeing, General Dynamics, that can produce a product that adheres to government specs for a specific item at the quantity the government requests, at the same time matching or exceeding government specifications. In a competitive bid, the bidder who is most responsive and provides the lowest bid gains the government contract. The last caveat on who gets the business is, who you know, and who knows you.

While on the surface that sounds crooked, what is meant by this phrase is reputation. Are you reputable? Is your business highly regarded among it's peers? What makes your product the "difference maker" for the price point? Is your business Union or Non-union? This fact has a direct impact on the price of the product. These points are some of the variables that are key to earning a U.S. Government contract, and they will regard as "good service."

Of course! It's certainly not "good-ol'-boy' patronage, political bribery and scandalous no-bid contracts that allow corporations to rape and pillage the taxpayers' treasury.
It's certainly just a 'coincidence' that the two largest government contractors in this contrived Iraqi 'war' happen to be the Carlyle Group and Halliburton, both of whom have direct personal ties to the Bush-Cheney White House.
It's certainly a completely honest and above-board method of fair bidding processes and total objectivity that awards corporations the government business.
And if you believe any of that, I've got some lakefront property in Santa Fe I'd like to sell you. -RKO- 12/16/07

In so much as they need to sell stuff to you, yes. They really care about shareholders. That's their job. The tobacco industry is an obvious example of how far corporations will go and how little consumers care.

Yeah right.. good service. No it is good old fashioned bribery and who do you know.

Check out the bank accounts of ?Cheney and Bush.. if you could find them.. to see just how much Halitburton has payed them.

Of course, they would fake outrage to hear that.. but it is a fact. They are both on the take, I bet. It is not an accident that Haliburton has made billions off this administration.

Hmmmm......let me think about that one!! Remember how we USED to have a civil service system that was put in place to replace the old patronage system that did NOT work? Hmmmm are we perhaps regressing? Nahh our politicians wouldn't replace a professional workforce with political hacks would they? After all we do elect them to look out for OUR interests. They wouldn't forget that would they?

Generally they must bid on each government contract. Specializing in serving government contracts, providing they can and do provide quality products gives then a bit of an advantage.
