What exactly are you trying to accomplish? You're right, that is a commonly used phrase, and it is pretty trite. If you are tired of writing it, imagine how tired your prof must be of reading it. here are some ideas...wordy and stilted, but you can edit them to fit your situation.
(Even better, show your point in such a way that you don't have to use such a heavy handed technique...)

In this example, there is a strong correlation between reality and the fictional descriptions.

Similar patterns of behavior (or events) appear in both daily life and in written accounts.

The similarity of events in the literature examples and in documented accounts real experience is too large to be discounted as being mere coincidence.

A comparison of the literature examples with real life will show that literature does reflect experience.

Even a cursory reflection on the examples from the literature will show how accurately it is modeled after life.

Literature can mirror life

Mirror images can be found in life and literature

Commonalities can be found in fictional accounts and real-life examples

We can compare and contrast real life examples with those in literary accounts

It is interesting to examine similarities between life and literature

It would be easier to give you better examples if we knew the topic/theme/issues. Good luck with your essay

Can you be more specific? What does "this" refer to, and what kind of situation do you have in mind?
