Well let's try and remember it this way and it might be easier. If you add numbers together, just remember that the opposite of addition is subtraction, and the opposite of multiplying is dividing. Simplyfing is just a fancy name for distributing. for example if you have (x+3)(x+4) Just work from the first to the last. so you have x squared + 4x+3x+12. Once you have that down then you simplify more by combining like terms. Like terms are numbers that have the same variable or exponent. So in this case you would have an answer of x squared + 7x +12. It's called distributing and simplifying, but a way to remember is called FOIL, First outside, Inside & Last. Take the first terms and multiply, then the outside term, then inside and then the last. It is going to get a little more complicated as you continue on in grades, but it's basically the same thing. Another easier way to remember how to do that is just take the terms, what is x * x, what is 4 *x, what is 3* x and what is 3 * 4. And then you have your answer. Factoring is pretty simple. Whenever you are factoring anything, you always have to find the greatest common factor between the two numbers or variables. For example, 10x-6, You need to factor that out, so is the greatest common factor that 10x and 6 have in common other than the 1. The answer is 2. so what you would have for an answer to that example is 2(5x-3) and when you multiply that out it would give you 10x-6. If you couldn't find a GCF for that example I gave you, then it couldn't be factored and you would be done with the problem. And remember when you add and subtract fractions, you have to find the common denominator between the two otherwise it won't work. Multiplying them and dividing you don't. With division you just take the second fraction and flip it around and multiply. Hope this helps a little.
