Because they have nothing meaningful and significant in their lives to focus on. Ignore them, they'll go away.

Sometimes what seems to be stupid little insignificant meaningless things can mean the difference between life and death. Take the Patriot Act for example. Most of the Patriot Act is written like this:
"1. remove 'the' from line two of paragraph 1, subsection 1a on section I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and replace it with 'a'. "
Better yet, here is an actual quote from the Patriot Act:
(c) DESIGNATION OF FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS- Section 219(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1189(a)) is amended--
(1) in paragraph (1)(B), by inserting `or terrorism (as defined in section 140(d)(2) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1988 and 1989 (22 U.S.C. 2656f(d)(2)), or retains the capability and intent to engage in terrorist activity or terrorism' after `212(a)(3)(B)';
(2) in paragraph (1)(C), by inserting `or terrorism' after `terrorist activity';...
(4) in paragraph (2)(B)(i), by striking `subparagraph (A)' and inserting `subparagraph (A)(ii)';
(5) in paragraph (2)(C), by striking `paragraph (2)' and inserting `paragraph (2)(A)(i)';
(6) in paragraph (3)(B), by striking `subsection (c)' and inserting `subsection (b)';

It's just some people's nature. Some people are just that way and I don't really think that there is a universal answer for that.
It's kind of like; why do some people have to have their house totally clean, while others are really messy and don't really care if their house is clean or not. One of those things. It's just a personality quirk or the way they were raised, etc...
