They just mean a question is interesting to someone. I give stars sometimes for a question that I want to come back to. They really don't mean anything that I'm aware of, but some people seem desperate to get them for some reason. I mean, it's not like you can redeem them for prizes or anything.
Here, I'll give you one.
Also, be careful when you post a question. The window will tell you which forum it is going to. Seems like most questions with the word "star" in them get posted in the astronomy forum. You can change this option on the last two screens before posting your question.
