What the world has come to know as the ‘Statue of Liberty’ is, in reality, ‘Liberty enlightening the World’ a figure which predates (in various forms) the Statue of Liberty. These various liberty figures have been identifiable by their emblems, such as the scales of justice and the lamp of knowledge. Some here may be familiar with Eugene Delacroix’s painting of a bare-breasted Liberty, bayonet in one hand, tricolor (flag of France) in the other wearing the red cap of liberty, advancing over the bodies of fallen comrades.

Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi design his version of Liberty more along the lines of a Roman matron as well as significantly modifying the traditional trappings. In place of the ‘cap’ he created a radiant crown, of which its seven points are said to symbolize the seven continents and the seven seas.

Meanings of Statue trappings:
7 Spikes in the Crown represent:
- Seven Seas:
Arctic, Antarctic, North & South Atlantic, North & South Pacific, Indian.
- Seven Continents:
North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Antarctica, Australia
- 25 windows in the crown represent: "natural minerals" of the earth
- Toga represents: The Ancient Republic of Rome
- Torch represents: Enlightenment
- Chains underfoot represent: Liberty crushing the chains of slavery
Hand with which Statue holds tablet: Left
Inscription on tablet: "July 4, 1776" (in Roman numerals)
Day of America's Independence from Britain: July 4, 1776

On a bronze plaque is the following:
The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
with conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
a mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame,
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
By Emma Lazarus, Poet of the Huddled Masses

The other people who all gave you the right answer about the tablet probably did a google search for statue of liberty, left arm.

You should try doing your own google search FIRST before you ask questions in the future. It's really very informative when you do that.
