Why would finding out anyone is gay be funny? I am sure some would be taking a step back and saying "see it was not my fault he/she is gay, but others would feel even more hurt. If a marriage fails then if both parties leave with a level of respect for each other the transition is going to be much better.

NO.
That's why my godparents split. My godmother was cheating on my godfather with another woman. It was a dreadful experience for everyone who loved them, they were the perfect married couple, fun and caring.
And imagine how my godfather felt when he found out about this? Imagine how embarassing it was for him that his wife had been cheating on him with a WOMAN?!
I'm not saying that gay couples are bad, I know quite a few that are wonderful, but to find out that your ex/soon to be ex has switched orientation is a heart-breaking and embarrasing experience.

Depends. If it was a good while later... maybe. But if you're the last person they date before they figure out they're gay.... doesn't look so great on you, does it?
