Yes, I cleaned my teeth often with soot when a boy, back in the 1930's, there were no liquid soaps then, Mother used Lifebuoy Toilet soap.

Never cleaned my teeth with soot, but have use bicarbonate of soda when I run out of toothpaste.
Have washed my hair with washing up liquid when I had no shampoo.
I usually buy in advance now.

Teeth with soot? No. But when i was a child, me and my four brothers used to wash our hair with washing up liquid! Didn't do us any harm!

I've washed my hair with washing up liquid but not cleaned my teeth with soot.
Thinking about it it would make your face look like a negative.
