The definition of a terrapin is "land turtle". They are often confused with box turtles, and about the same size.. approximately 6" to 8" in length. They don't live IN water. Their need for water is miniimal.

I did a google search for Pet Keeping, Marc Morrone and there is a lot of links more than the one below. His show was from Martha Stewart Living, and he would be the perfect person to locate and email your inquiry to. He's great with animals people keep at home, including some of the more exotic ones.

So go to Wickipedia and see it you can locate him.
And do the same google search I did to follow some of the other links to him.

Good luck. I am sorry I cannot answer how they do with cold water, or if there is one by this name, but Marc should be able to help you. Sadly, his show went off the air at the end of 2006.

No turtle likes cold water. They want 75F+ for comfort- turtles love warmth and sunshine.

As far as 'terrapin' goes, that is a slippery term. It DOES NOT mean 'land turtle' (that is 'tortoise'.)

In the US, a terrapin is a marsh turtle on the East Coast. In Europe, it is used for turtles that spend a lot of time basking- what we call 'pond turtles'.
