Simplify. (x^2 + 11x + 28) divided by (x^2 – 8x - 48)

factor the terms

(x+7)(x+4)
--------------
(x-12)(x+4)

The (x+4) terms cancel each other and you are left with

(x+7)/(x-12)


For the second one:
When you multiple the terms you should get:
100xy^2
------------
40y

Cancel the y terms and get:

100xy
--------
40

Simplify:

5xy
-----

First one: The numerator is factored to (x+7)(x+4)
The denominator is factored to (x+4)(x-12).
Now you have (x+7)(x+4)/(x-12)(x+4).
The x+4's cancel each other out, and you are left with (x+7) divided by (x-12).
the answer is d.

Second one: Multiply the numerators together (5y^2)(20x)= 100xy^2
Multiply the denominators together = 40y
Now you have 100xy^2/40y.
The y is in the denominator cancels out one of the y's in the numerator. 100/40 = 10/4 = 5/2. You are left with 5yx/2. The answer is d.

you have to factor them for the 1st problem

(x^2 + 11x + 28)
----------------------
(x^2 - 8x - 48)

=

(x+7) (x+4)
---------------
(x-12) (x+4)

= (x+7) / (x-12) d.

4 .......... 10y

= y * 5x / 2 = 5xy/2 d.
