Is Act4 Scene1 (Court Scene) in Merchant of Venice the most dramatic Scene in the play?
What do you think???
Is it because Antonio is nearly put to death!
Or Portia and Nerissa save Antonio!
Or is it because Shylock wants to get revenge and he nearly gets there but Portia ruins it!

I just want peoples veiws on the scene
Thanks

The scene is pivotal to the play for every reason you mention. It pretty much raps everything up, except for the general morality of Portia which I think is questionable and the wimpieness of Antonio which you have to think about on your own.

It is because it is the point in the play at which all the problems are at critical point and must be resolved. This is what most call the climax of the play.
